This week I wrote a blog for “De Wereldwijven”(https://dewereldwijven.com/2022/04/18/milieu-klimaat-wereld-conflict-botswana-reflectie/) which I translated it for you...

The earth is crying….

At the end of 2018 I will swap my overfull agenda and the busy Rotterdam area for the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Together with my husband I live on our beautiful Phazama Farm in the middle of nature. Since I have been living here, I have started to deepen my knowledge about nature coaching and listening to the messages of wisdom keepers in this special and changing world. Meanwhile, I feel fully connected to nature.

Nature is so powerful and it gives answers to my questions. Sometimes I worry enormously and then I go into nature as well.

I go to a fig tree in the middle of the floodplain. I lean my back against a termite mound and my dogs lie at my feet.

I look around and see the wild roses, which bloom here every year at this time. I see the monkeys with babies hanging under their bellies and donkeys with those cute little hatchlings. Thunderclouds pile up because it is the rainy season. It shows me that nature just goes on with its seasons and teaches me that I can also just go on with whatever I want to do and achieve.

Today I go back to my tree. I sit in silence and follow my breathing as the dogs sit silently beside me. I completely unwind and listen to what is coming to me. I get emotional and cry. I let it happen. The message that comes to me is, "The earth is crying."

I totally get it: I also cry because of what humans do to nature and what we do to each other. I often feel so small and powerless and I ask the tree, "What can I do about this?" The answer I get is, "You can inspire people." And that is exactly what I am trying to do. Inspire through this blog that I get to share with power women around the world and with my foundation StartUp4Kids. With the foundation we want to inspire children and their mothers in many countries.

Let's take care of our beautiful nature together. And don't forget: we humans are nature too...so let's be nice to each other and stay positive! #lovenature💚 #wearenature #wisdomkeepers #earthday2022🌍

A little bit more than a month into the new year. How is it going with your new year goals / good intentions? If you just put something on paper and expect it to happen, you probably lost already.
Make sure that your goals motivate you and don't limit you. Don't make them dependent on others, or elements you don't have control on. Asked yourself everyday if you are actions today are towards your goals.
By the way, goal setting is overrated.

Every year around this time beautiful flowers pop up. This flower is only here now, for a short period. Next year it will be there again. This is a natural cycle. Because you are nature too, these natural cycles also take place in your body like the four seasons. Did you know that? I knew it because I read about it. To be honest with you, when I lived in the Netherlands, I did not feel it in my body as I was always giving 100% in every aspect in my life. I never took time for a winter sleep…I was just like a train that never came to a stop.
When you have a closer look at the four seasons you will see that in wintertime seeds are under the ground waiting to hatch and that trees have no leaves. In spring the seeds start to come to life and beautiful green sprouts and flowers pop up and light green buds appear in the trees. In summer it all comes to full bloom but in autumn leaves turn orange, yellow and brownish and they will fall from the tree, the grass turns yellow and flowers wilt. And then the new cycle starts over again.
Let’s translate this to one of your aspects in life, let’s say your business. When you are in your natural winter you are resting. When you are in this quietness, new ideas, opportunities and dreams come into your mind. Those are like seeds resting in the soil. In springtime your ideas start to become like small plants. In summer your ideas are alive, and you are like a blooming flower full of energy. Then autumn comes and you harvest your successes. It is also the time to have closer look at your business and to let go of some things that don’t work for you. It is fine to say goodbye and let go, just like the tree that drops its leaves.
In Botswana it is summer now, but business wise I am in winter. I really need this time to get new ideas for our business, for posts, for inspiration. But I feel that I am starting to awake, and that spring will come soon for me.
When you look at all aspects in your life, can you then see in which seasons you are in? Do you take time to come to a rest in your busy life to become (more) successful and more energized after?

My dear friend Jolanda Kluft recommended me to read the book "Shinrin Yoku” about the healing power of forest bathing written by Annette Lavrijsen. This wonderful book is full of wisdom and exercises.
Last week I had the idea to share one of the exercises with you. I wanted to find a big leaf for that. Walking around in the forests at our farm I noticed that the leaves are very small here, not like the big leaves in the Netherlands. So, I didn’t find a big leaf. Today I was walking again in the forest, and I saw something big and white. I thought that it would be rubbish, so I picked it up to throw it away later. When I looked at it better, I saw to my big surprise that it was a huge and beautiful leaf in a place where there are no big leaves!!! I already found out that if you ask nature a question you will get an answer at some stage. In this case I got my big leaf!
And so here is the exercise. Go for a walk and find a leaf that attracts you. Ask yourself: “Why did I choose this leaf?”. Look at it closely, turn it, feel the structure, look at its colours and at its beauty. Imagine now that you are that leaf yourself and that you are cherished by your own hands.
How does that feel?
